About Leo Malboeuf
Leo Malboeuf is new to McKinney, having just moved from Naples Florida. He was born and raised in Worcester Massachusetts where he attended Worcester Academy and studied at the Worcester Art Museum. Leo majored in art at Rollins College in Florida, under Pete Peterson, a noted local realist. He transferred to the University of Miami where he received both his BFA and MFA. While in Miami, he taught undergraduate classes at the University of Miami and at the Lowe Museum School. He also exhibited at the Lowe Art Museum, as well as Galleries in Coconut Grove.
In 1972, Leo and Pam moved to Duxbury Massachusetts where he resided for 36 years with his wife, Pam. They founded, taught, and directed Bay Farm Montessori Academy for 29 years.
In 2001, Leo and Pam retired and moved to Wellfleet on Cape Cod. Leo joined the Provincetown Art Association. He exhibited at many of their juried and member shows as well as in local Galleries in Provincetown and Wellfleet. In 2006, Leo and Pam moved to Florida. There he exhibited at Fernandina Arts and Gallery Association, Alliance for the Art in Fort Meyers and the Naples Art Museum.
Leo works almost exclusively in oils. He also does work in digital media and works on his compositions initially on a computer. He works from photographs and quick sketches. He also does drawings to work out the details of each painting. Most of his subjects are not posed or set up, but instead come from his day today observations.. He also does portraits, which he prefers to do with subjects in unorthodox poses.
Leo recently bought a house in McKinney to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren and hopes they will be the subjects of many paintings. Now that his studio is set up, he paints daily and will accept commissioned work, as well as continuing to work on his own new ideas and perspectives.
